What I've Done

I am most proud of my climb from an enlisted soldier to an Army officer. I never would have dreamed that I would have a college degree, much less a masters degree! I have many people to thank that have helped me along the way.

I've been in the Army since I was 18 years old, so most of my accomplishments have been in my capacity as an Army officer. I've been writing software for many years. Most of my applications have fallen by the wayside, overwhelmed by the Microsoft Windows world and my lack of time to keep them current. Some of my applications include:

  • EZ-OER
  • EZ-NCOER
  • EZ-Plot
  • Shadow Clerk
  • DutyCalc!
  • Company Information System (CIS, USAREUR version)

I have also enjoyed long distance running although the one marathon I ran convinced me never to do it again. I ran in THE MARATHON in Athens, Greece in 1980. I was a competitive 10 kilometer runner while in Germany managing to win one race with a 32 minute time. My knees have forced me to reduce mileage, however,

I was selected as Company Grade Officer of the Year in 1993 for the 21st TAACOM in Heidelberg Germany and was awarded the General Douglas Macarthur Leadership Award for United States Army Europe the same year. The dining facility I was managing at the time was awarded the Connelly Award at the Army level (thanks to the hard work of all the cooks).

My work as a genealogist has been very satisfying. The Internet has been a wonderful place to meet relatives, and I've been able to track down over 5000 ancestors and blood relatives. I discover at least 3 new relatives a week via email and am able to trace them back to a common ancestor.

I am also a licensed amateur radio operator. My call sign is KA5DLB.
